Dear [ Insert Official's Name],

As a resident and voter in this county, I am writing to you to ask for a reasonable investigation into the electronic software and data management used to administer elections in our county. My request is not about past elections. I ask that you investigate and take any necessary action to ensure that our future elections are free, fair, and valid. If there is an official with more authority over the elections in our county, please forward this information to those officials and send me their name and contact information.

The reason I am concerned arises from a very recent filing in the Supreme Court of the United States. It has been revealed that three highly qualified computer security experts have concluded that, in one of the largest election systems used by many jurisdictions, critical passwords were left in very exposed positions that could easily be reached by a great variety of people. This apparently could allow bad actors to compromise the integrity of our elections.

I do not know if this same company (Dominion) is used for our elections. But like in the recent spate of airline mishaps, if one airline is having problems it is a good idea for all systems to be checked to ensure that they are designed and working securely.

I specifically ask that:

The county appoints a bipartisan team with relevant experts to independently determine if our system has these same password vulnerabilities (plaint text passwords in the database) and is otherwise secure.
If this vulnerability exists, it likely is in breach of contract. If so, please engage a qualified lawyer to pursue this breach.
The county ensures that all actions on our electronic voting systems are auditable and that this feature cannot be turned off.

I will be sharing my concerns and your response with as many as my friends and neighbors as possible.

I truly appreciate your service and your willingness to investigate this matter. Nothing done in the civic arena is more important than making sure elections are done with integrity.
